Anything Arts

One of the cool newsletters I get is the Anything Arts Newsletter there are now even Sarasota and Manattee editions...

Welcome to AnythingArtsNewsletter.com; the number one local resource supporting artists, artistic expression and artsy events. There's so much to do in Sarasota and Manatee Counties and we help you to be in the know. Our electronic newsletter is a virtual arts center, distributed free by email every other week (this week in Sarasota, next week in Manatee; alternating weeks) to thousands of readers in Florida and throughout the world. Each newsletter reports on galleries, music, theatre, artists, movies, book signings, special events, auditions, workshops and, well, anything arts related

There is also another website anythingarts.com with lots of artsy info...

Rick one of the forces behind these sites is working to promote the new Sarasota Documentary Film Society. Part of it's mission is to aid local filmmakers and to also produce short films about local non-profits that cannot otherwise afford to do so. They can then use the films as a promotional and outreach vehicle.

Partial proceeds of the viewing of Knuckleball will help fund this project..... maybe you should go!

American Spirit

What makes American culture unique ... I don't know everything but I think it is our hard work. I work hard day and night and I think it is because I like it...

One Big Campus - Smart Marketing

Philadelphia has started marketing itself as onebigcampus.com 19 colleges have banded together to promote Phila as a great place for college students. This single website gives info on all things related ... info on the schools and how to get around town and find what "you" want out of a great city.

I listened to an interview with Todd Hoffman on the Smart City Podcast he is president of the consulting firm working with the city. I also saw it on the CoolTown Studio blog.

OK Sarasota can New College, Ringling College of Art, USF, MCC and Ringling Museum / FSU and the folks at the "cultural district" work together to do something like this?

The work some of them started on the study of the North Trail is a beginning ... can "we" keep the ball rolling???

Who will be the leader ...

A New Type of Culture Comes to Sarasota

Bozo the Bard brings clown culture to downtown...

Lots of people were looking at the clowns this morning while I was on my bike ride... not the crowds that "unconditional surrender" had but the season is early and the clowns just appeared... I bet they will be popular ... I think they are well done.

PS the bard is at the library -- where else !!

As foretold in several previous posts ....
The Clowns are coming .... in October

TideWell's Children's Services Program

Five Points Park - how much should it change?

Today was a beautiful morning at Five Points Park. The farmers market in combination with an art/craft fair brings out a huge crowd. Certainly this is not a bad use of the park - it just needs to be able to stand up to the use.

Don't forget there is a meeting Thursday night at Selby Library about creating a new master plan for this great urban park.

I had a flat tire on my bike this morning !!!! First maintenance in 2 years. Downtown was jammed by the time I got there. I love seeing all of the people enjoying themselves.

Earlye Musicke Consort

We went to the Sarasota Music Archive presentation of the "Sarasota Earlye Musicke Consort" This was really fun (and free) it was the other side of Sarasota - I was maybe the second youngest person there..

Really nice holiday music mostly played on "recorders" with some strings. Worth twice the price.
