A New Type of Culture Comes to Sarasota

Bozo the Bard brings clown culture to downtown...

Lots of people were looking at the clowns this morning while I was on my bike ride... not the crowds that "unconditional surrender" had but the season is early and the clowns just appeared... I bet they will be popular ... I think they are well done.

PS the bard is at the library -- where else !!

As foretold in several previous posts ....
The Clowns are coming .... in October

This is refreshing to read.

This is refreshing to read. I worked on the Clowning Around Town project and it was a wonderful thing to be a part of. I was devastated to see the destruction that some people decided to inflict on the incredible works of art. It was a very long process for everyone involved, particularly the artists.

I personally wish the clowns could have stayed! They brought a lot of character to the streets of Sarasota. This project was for a great cause-TideWell Hospice's children...I hope we can do something similar to this in the future and hopefully our residents will show some more respect!

I have seen something like

I have seen something like that in a museum in Los Lanos de Aridane, La Palma, Spain, but there were some saints belonging to a far away century. They looked very real, alive I mean, since they were man height. I love them and I think they will love that as well.

Looking Forward to the Clowns

I moved away from Sarasota little over a year ago - couldn't afford it any more, but my heart is still there. I'm happy a bit of Sarasota's Circus Heritage is being celebrated. I'll be visiting next week and am looking forward to seeing the clowns. Maybe some (of the clowns) are being vandelized by those who suffer from coulrophobia?

[TALK] The Clown Doctor Is In: Due Mostly To Vandalism, Nine Clown Statues Have Needed Treatment In The Last Two Weeks

Frank Creaturo owns a downtown art gallery, but lately he’s spent much of his time in the medical field. Yesterday afternoon he fixed two cracks in Princess Cliffaget Calliroles’ leg, but that was just the first of three patients that day— Creaturo’s patients are the downtown clowns that are part of Tidewell Hospice’s “Clowning Around Town” program.

Two weeks ago, the program began displaying its 50 clown statues around the downtown Sarasota area. The clowns, which Tidewell Hospice will auction next May, have had a rough past fortnight. “It’s horrible what they’re doing, because it’s for the kids,” Creaturo says of the vandalism of the clowns. Props, such as a slingshot, a microphone and a cane, have been ripped off of different clowns. But Princess Cliffaget was the worst yet, Creaturo said yesterday.

“It looks like someone must have been swinging on it or standing from it,” he diagnosed from his art gallery turned emergency room. “They didn’t expect this much damage.”

cool

The old clowns are becoming obsolete rapidly. The clown industry must think of new creative ideas and getups to entertain, otherwise, clowns will be history.

A Different Subject

I wish that the powers that be would have chosen something different like some character...maybe one of the characters from the Goodheart place fountain downtown. Well they didn't ask me. Send in the clowns.
